2025 Perennial Plant of the Year - "Clustered Mountain Mint", (Pycnanthemum muticum) is native to meadows and open woodlands across much of the eastern United States west to Texas. While not a true mint, it belongs to the same family and has similarly scented leaves. This is a must-have for pollinator gardens, with heads of tiny white to light pink blooms attracting butterflies, wasps and bees from July to September. Although the flowers are inconspicuous, they are surrounded by silver bracts that give the illusion of frost in summer and can persist for months.
This is a hardy plant with no serious disease issues and is unpalatable to deer and rabbits! It will spread, but not as invasive as a true mint.
Perennial. Zones 4 - 8. Full sun to part shade. 24-36" tall. One gallon pot.
